OUR NEEDS LIST TO FINISH TEAM HOUSE/CONFERENCE CENTER PROJECT

   July 26th, 2010   -    Prayer and Petitions

2010 team season has come and gone and although we don't understand God's purpose for us not hosting any construction teams this year at Campo Yazu, we accept it as His perfect will.  Most of you know that for the past four long years we've been involved in building a new team house/conference facility.  This facility must be up and running in order for us to move forward with our main ministry focus for which more than six years ago God gave us His vision.  We still believe in this vision of God's call on our lives to facilitate evangelism/medical/dental mission teams into the seldom-reached interior villages of our district. Currently, here is a brief summary of the work that still needs to be done and the approximate cost of materials:

  • Cement (approx. $200 total) for the installation of the ceramic tile(already purchased) in both dorm rooms and bathrooms
  • Painting both dorm rooms and bathrooms inside (approx. $250)
  • All exterior painting: approx. $2000 (needs to be done during dry season which is from March through May)
  • Purchase of materials/ labor to complete the kitchen (don't have that estimate from the contractor); propane fridge and stove are $1,800
  • Purchase of materials/labor for wooden tables/chairs or ready-made molded plastic dining room tables/chairs
  • Purchase of materials/labor to build beds (w/mattresses), and storage lockers for dorm rooms
  • Purchase of materials for four interior doors and two exterior screen doors
  • Cement/labor for porch slab (approx. $150)

All of our construction teams do at least one whole day of village evangelism.  The opportunities are numerous and range from "mini VBS" at area orphanages, jail ministry(men only), hospital ministry, church-service type ministry in the village and street evangelism.

If you and/or your church can help with any of these needs, please contact us by email at jpanhnd@yahoo.com or speak with us in person while we are in the U.S. on furlough (Aug. 18th-Oct. 14th, 2010).  You may also contact the home office of Global Outreach International at 662-842-4615 to reach us while on furlough or to donate to this specific project.

We desperately need your willing hands to help us work on this building project and also to minister the love of Christ to others in the nearby village of Puerto Lempira, so please pray about coming to Campo Yazu during the 2011 team season (begins March of 2011).

With Opportunity Come Obstacles

June 11th, 2010   -    Campo Yazu Ministry News

"For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries."  1Corinthians 16:9

I love the book of First Corinthians since it is full of practical advice and info regarding how we are, as Christians, to live our lives.  But, more importantly, perhaps, is that in this book there is not only what a Christian's behavior is supposed to look like but most importantly, what our motives are for this "holy living".

While I was reading some old devotional material last night, I ran across this Scripture which is very timely for what's happening in our lives as we serve Christ in La Mosquitia.  I enjoy reading favorite verses in several Bible translations and the Amplified Bible says it this way:

"For a wide door of opportunity for effectual [service] has opened to me [there, a great and promising one], and [there are] many adversaries".

Many of you know that for the past several weeks we have been involved in some extremely serious and pressing spiritual warfare concerning Campo Yazu Ministries and ultimately God's will for our lives.  There are many Bible stories that have greatly strengthened our faith such as the story of Esther, the story of Gideon, and our favorite, the story of King Jehoshaphat (2 Chronicles 20).  As did Jehoshaphat, we simply did what he and the people did as they were facing their enemies.  We realized that we were powerless in our own might to face this spiritual battle and acknowledged to the Lord that we did not know what to do but that our "eyes" and our trust were upon Him.  The Lord responded to King Jehoshaphat and the people with the assurance that they need not fight in the battle but to simply take their positions, stand still, and see the deliverance of the Lord for them (2 Chron. 20:17).  When we followed their example and "rested" in the Lord, He gave us tremendous peace and assurance that He was still in control and that He would fight the fight for us.

Ephesians chapter 6 describes the "armor of God" and it is very important for Christians to regularly review them.  Also of importance is the fact that God did not give us any armor for our "backsides"!  God clearly told us that since there is none, we should never even entertain the thought of running away from the battles that come into our lives.  We have proven again that only through prayer and worship before, during, and after our battle, God brings our deliverance.  We must all come to Calvary for each piece of this wonderful armor and then stand in the victory Christ won for us there.  It is up to us to stay free!

Thankfully, we have a Savior who laid down His life and gave us the Holy Spirit to empower His work through our lives.  Wherever the Spirit is, we can be certain that an "unholy" spirit also lurks nearby.  If the work didn't have the potential to be effective, then there would not be an adversary.

So, when we are tempted to pray for our problems or battles to be taken from us, we just may unknowingly miss the whole point:  To impact our world, wherever God has placed us to serve Him, with the Gospel, we can be sure that we will encounter the enemy every step of the way.  Instead of running from resistance, let's remember to pray that as God opens the door of opportunity, He will give us the strength and courage to "walk" through it and boldly and faithfully share His love.  Our prayer for you is that as God opens the door, He will give you courage to RUN TO your battle!

"...but our power and ability and sufficiency are from God."  II Cor. 3:5
